Job Summary
The Music Director/Conductor leads Atlanta’s
oldest independent chorus in its vision to develop, nurture, and
promote the joy of choral music and to enhance the quality of life
of its singing members, audience, and community at large.
In conjunction with the Board of Trustees, he/she seeks to
foster widespread singer engagement in achieving the organization’s
goals, to generate greater community awareness of the Choral Guild
of Atlanta, to continue exploring an array of musical venues, styles
of expression, and pools of talent that reflect the
variety/heterogeneity of metropolitan Atlanta, and to expand our
contributor base.
Responsibilities/Duties
Provides
overall musical direction to the Choral Guild, including:

Prepares for and conducts rehearsals and performances for all
performing groups, including soloists, instrumentalists, and
guest ensembles.

Develops appropriate season programming by identifying musical
selections that further the organization’s vision, mission, and
goals as well as maintain its fiscal well-being.

Conducts auditions to select members annually, and to select
soloists, instrumentalists, and guest ensembles on an as-needed
basis.

Evaluates and recommends candidates for other artistic positions
within the organization including assistant conductor and
accompanist.

Identifies appropriate concert and rehearsal venues.

Provides background/historical context information about musical
selections for inclusion in printed materials such as the season
brochure, programs, and press releases.

Identifies, and assists in planning, additional artistic
opportunities that further the organization’s vision, mission,
and goals.
Contributes to administration of the Choral Guild, including:

Coordinates all artistic efforts with the staff, officers, and
the Board of Trustees

Assists in public relations and fundraising efforts

musicianship, the quality of our performances, and the positive
reactions of our audience;

performing outstanding choral works from all
musical periods, with a focus on important but rarely performed
works, and living composers; and

enriching the cultural lives of our audience
by educating them about the composers and choral works of our
repertoire.

resume; programs from the last three years with recorded selections;
references from chief officer, board members, and/or singers;
relevant information about past choral organizations, including
budget, size of group, grant awards, and tours, if appropriate; and
written statement reflecting your philosophy, goals, and methods of
evaluation when directing a community chorus of volunteer singers.
